Mama, is it time to go home yet?

Hi Everyone!

So, another day in Moscow. It was very very rainy today so we stayed pretty close to home. This morning at 9:30am (very civilized hour) the doctor from the Embassy came to call. He pronounced the children healthy- Orange has a cold (still!) and he thinks he may have a Vitamin D deficieny - which milk and sunshine will cure lickety split - but other than that they have been given a clean bill of health- which means that if all goes well at the Embassy tomorrow we will actually, truly, really leave on Tuesday!!! YAY!!!

So, as many of you know we have been talking to the kids about home, showing them pictures of everyone, talking about the family etc. They know that we are going to "nasha dom" (our house) the day after tomorrow and today we played a game about leaving. They seem excited to get to our house and I hope that this excitement does not fade. I am not sure Orange really realizes that this means he will have to get on another plane....but with the cough medicine decongestent the doctor prescribed this morning maybe his poor ears will be better on landing and we will not have the scary total meltdown experience again?!?

Other than that a day of play in the apartment- again, so glad we are in an apartment even though it is "more work" because it gives us a place to really spread out and play - rather than a hotel where we would have less private space. Each kiddo had a couple meltdowns today - mostly about toys and bath time and bed time but we made it through. It only took us 1 hour to put them to bed tonight!!!

I did go out for a quick shop at the 'mall' across the street and bought Apple a new sweater as she is cold if it is not super hot inside (baby homes tend to keep the heat at 80 in the winter and as you know in the summer it is a zillion degrees in Siberia) and so off I went in the rain to the fanciest mall of all time. I got her a sweater that cost more than any piece of toddler clothing should ever cost but she loves it- it is pink with shiny buttons and she thinks it is perfect. And she isnt cold anymore which is all a mother can ask for. It was very surreal to tell the shop girl that I was shopping for my DAUGHTER -- almost teared up right there in the store! It felt natural and crazy all at the same time.

Side Note: I have decided that Moscow is like Las Vegas, Paris and New York all rolled into one. Totally glizty and nouveau, great architecture and of course history and lots of hustle and bustle- this is one ridiculously amazing city. Someday we will be here and be in the mood to explore it but right now we are all about "cocooning" with the kids before our odyssey of a trip home begins on Tuesday.

Tomorrow we are off to the Embassy- I will let you know how it goes!

Love,
Us

Great blog! I am enjoying reading this, especially since I will be heading to that same region. Good luck with everything.
